Predecessor Includes Assets From 1 …

As Omeda looks to take over the MOBA landscape with its new title, Predecessor, the game has an interesting origin story that started eight years ago. Multiplayer online battle arena enthusiasts probably came across another title in the genre called Paragon a while back, which was developed and published by Epic Games, but things didn’t work out too well for it due to a lack of players and sustainability.

That led to the game’s servers being shut down two years later, but it wasn’t all in vain since that was somewhat of a starting point for Predecessor.

During a discussion with the CEO and Founder of Omeda Studios, Robbie Singh, we brought up the variety of characters that are a part of the developer’s latest MOBA, Predecessor. “So some of the assets here were from the original Paragon, and when Epic released the IP,” clarified Singh upon being asked about the thought process that went into designing various characters for the game.

Epic’s title was never fully released because of the aforementioned issues and stayed in an open beta phase for its short lifespan, but because of that, the company turned the game’s assets free-to-use, which provided titles like Predecessor the opportunity to try their luck in the genre.

We took a lot of that IP and put it into the game,” continued the Omeda Studios CEO, “but we also reworked a lot of the character design,” which results in Predecessor feeling like a familiar and fresh experience simultaneously. Robbie Singh did not shy away from admitting that some of these characters may definitely “look the same” as the ones from Paragon, but according to the Omeda founder, the team “made a lot of different design choices” to give its game a brand new identity.

Succeeding in the MOBA space is not the easiest task, so making sure that the characters in Predecessorare balanced” for the genre was a priority, along with trying to make them “feel more fun, more engaging, and more interactive to play with.”

Taking some assets from the Epic Games title does not mean that Omeda Studios did not introduce its own set of characters in Predecessor, and Robbie Singh already calls Twin Blast one of his favorite new additions.

The CEO pointed out how the MOBA genre welcomes “a variety of characters from across the universe,” and it is actually quite easy to incorporate different personalities into these types of games.

This let the Predecessor studio “go kind of wide with” its numerous designs, ranging from “a human demon hunter” to “a lizard gladiator.”
